GigRentals LLC
Tax reporting
Effective 2026-08-19. Templates — not legal, tax, or insurance advice.
GigRentals materials are product templates for an application process. They are not legal, tax, or insurance advice. A California attorney and a licensed broker must review any live program. Quotes are estimates. Applications are not offers. Inspection, underwriting, match, and countersignature are required before any vehicle changes hands.
Factor year 2026. Payer on worksheets: GigRentals LLC, 88 Market Street, San Francisco, CA 94105. TIN on demo forms is masked.
- Hosts and lessees are independent. We do not withhold income tax except legally required backup withholding.
- 2026: 1099-NEC if we pay you $600+ as nonemployee compensation; 1099-K via Stripe if gross through the platform meets the $2,500 (phase-in) test.
- Demo 1099s are stamped VOID. Live filing needs a W-9 / TIN.
- City vehicle-share / TOT is 0 bps until counsel loads a table and TAX_COLLECTION_ENABLED=true.
- We do not prepare Schedule E, Schedule C, or mileage logs.
What we collect from you
A W-9 (or W-8 if you are foreign — this program is California residents). Legal name, tax classification, TIN, address. Stripe Connect may collect the same for their 1099-K. We do not want a Social Security number over email; use the in-app form or Stripe.
Thresholds this year
1099-NEC if we pay you $600+ as nonemployee compensation. 1099-K if gross through the platform meets $2,500 (IRS 1099-K is still in a phase-in. We file at $2,500 gross through the platform for 2026 unless Congress freezes the old $20,000/200-transaction test. Demo forms stamp VOID.) Backup withholding, if the IRS requires it, is 24%.
Where the forms live
Hosts: /owners/taxes. Lessees: /drivers/taxes. Print packets: host 1099, lessee lease, desk books. Demo PDFs print VOID. Live filing is a go-live gate (TAX_FORM_1099_ENABLED).
